Pittsburgh Post Gazette: Forest hills sculpture stands tall for and by veterans
Nicole Langhorst keeps the memory of her sister, Michelle, alive in the form of a Corten steel silhouette, which stands 10 feet tall.
Michelle was a military policewoman in the U.S. Army. She was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2006 during Operation Iraqi Freedom and spent 9½ years in uniform before a medical (and honorable) discharge ended her military career. Not long after, in 2015, Michelle died by suicide at age 31.

IN THE SHADE OF SERVICE
Forest Hills Sculpture Project
This 18 ft. high Corten and Stainless Steel interpretive public art sculpture will be installed at Forest Hills Veteran Housing at 1844 Ardmore Boulevard, an eastern suburb of Pittsburgh, PA.
As opposed to memorialization, In the Shade of Service invites understanding of the military and family military experience. The OVArts Veteran Design Team envisions those sitting beneath the sculpture’s protective dog tag leaf canopy will recognize the efforts of our service men, women, and their families to ensure our freedoms.
